Seriously Considered Anxiety Medication in 2025—Here’s What I’m Trying Instead in 2026

2025 was… a lot. Like, really a lot. I had moments where I genuinely thought, “Okay, I might need a prescription for this anxiety.” And honestly? That option still feels valid and necessary for so many people. But as I'm stepping into 2026, I decided I wanted to try a few things first — small shifts, gentle changes, nothing extreme. Not because that feeling of anxiety magically goes away (spoiler: it doesn’t), but because I’m learning that how I live my everyday life has a huge impact on how I feel.

I’m not chasing perfection this year. I’m just paying closer attention. Choosing a little more care, a little more honesty, and a lot more grace with myself. These are the things I’m focusing on — one day at a time.

1. Finding a Cut-Off Time for Work

I’ve learned the hard way that I’m a workaholic. I push until I’m exhausted and then wonder why I have nothing left. This year, I’m setting a real stopping point—because rest isn’t laziness, it’s necessary.

2. Exercise for Overall Health, Mood, and Energy

Exercise isn’t about shrinking myself anymore. It’s about feeling stronger, calmer, and more energized. Even a little movement goes a long way, and I’m finally letting that be enough!

3. Spending More Time Outside

Sunshine is magic. Stepping outside, even briefly, completely shifts my mood. I’m making fresh air and daylight part of my daily routine, not a bonus.

4. Eating Foods That Make Me Feel Good

I’m done eating based on guilt or “shoulds.” This year, I’m choosing foods that actually make me feel good—more energy, better focus, and way less stress around meals.

5. Leaning Into My Support System

I don’t have to do everything alone. I’m being more intentional about spending time with the people who support me and remind me I’m not carrying this by myself.

6. Accepting the Preteen Changes (For Both of Us)

Preteen years are no joke. I’m practicing patience—with my son and with myself—as we figure out this new phase together. We’re both learning as we go.

7. Being Intentional with Friend Time

Less “we should get together sometime” and more actually making plans. I’m scheduling friend time, sending the text, and getting it out of the group chat.

8. Getting Dolled Up Just Because

I don’t need a special occasion to get dressed up. Sometimes doing my hair, putting on a cute outfit, or a little makeup changes my entire mood—and that’s reason enough.

9. Saying No and Making Space for Yes

Saying yes to everything leaves me burned out. This year, I’m getting comfortable saying no so I can say yes to the things that truly matter.

10. Taking the Trip & Welcoming the Unexpected

I don’t want to keep waiting for the “perfect time.” I’m taking the trip, trying new things, and letting life surprise me a little more.

11. Asking for Help

I don’t get extra points for doing it all myself. Asking for help is something I’m actively practicing—because support is there if I let it be.

I don’t know exactly how 2026 will unfold, and honestly, that’s okay. Instead of jumping straight to medication, I’m starting with small, intentional shifts—more care, more patience, and more grace.

Here’s to choosing ourselves a little more, taking it one day at a time, and welcoming whatever comes next. 🤍
